This post has been a long time coming. Seriously. Ever since my 333 Uses For Coconut Oil post went viral, my male audience has emailed me time and time again, asking for more information about coconut oil for erectile dysfunction.
We aren’t talking about “too stressed out to make it work today” dysfunction. Or “baby is crying in the other room and my wife is distracted by it” dysfunction. No, we are talking about true erectile dysfunction. The type that tags along with aging, medical issues, and long-term anxiety & stress (just to name a few causes).
I decided that now was the time to tackle this sensitive yet important topic. I mean, it would be nuts not to right? (Nuts as in coconuts – extract mind from gutter please).
Coconut Oil For Erectile Dysfunction
Researching this topic was rather time consuming. Unlike every other use under the sun, apparently coconut oil isn’t the “go-to” natural remedy for erectile dysfunction. It’s unfortunate really because it does bring something important to the table for men with erectile dysfunction.
What’s that you ask?
An improved libido.
Yes, libido. Men have to have a healthy libido in order to experience the arousal necessary to trigger a true erection. I am in NO WAY stating that all men with erectile dysfunction have a low libido, but they often do go hand in hand. Hence the focus on libido. (But please keep reading even if your libido is a force to be reckoned with because there is useful information in here for you as well).
Low libido is actually a hormone issue, something most men don’t realize. Additionally, the most common reason for hormone induced libido issues is a lack of testosterone. This is where coconut oil comes into play.
No, coconut oil will not produce a reinvigorated libido with the wave of a magic wand. But, it sets the necessary chain reaction in motion in order to get that mojo working in your favor! Here’s what happens.
Fat is used to build our cell membranes and is the starting point for many hormones. It is the saturated fat that is critical to cell membrane structure and ultimately the health of the cell. A less than optimal structure will lead to a less than optimal cell and a less than optimal cell cannot function properly, if at all.
Hormones direct most of the body’s critical functions. Not enough fat, not enough hormone production. So, if you consume a healthy daily amount of coconut oil, its saturated fat and cholesterol open the gateway to increasing steroid hormones which in turn raises testosterone levels.
Low libido or not, plentiful levels of testosterone are critical to achieving erections.
Wait up – one more important piece of info. In one study, coconut oil was found to reduce oxidative stress in the testes of rats, resulting in significantly higher levels of testosterone. Reducing oxidative stress is a good thing period but if it gets those testosterone levels back on track, even better.
Interestingly enough, coconut oil isn’t the only part of the coconut that proves useful in aiding men with erectile dysfunction. Turns out, coconut water can also play a role.
Coconut water is rich with different electrolytes of magnesium, sodium & potassium. These electrolytes greatly increase the energy of the human body, enhance the muscle functionalities, and increase the blood flow in blood vessels. Daily consumption of a single glass of coconut water has been reported (in some men) to diminish the effects of erectile dysfunction.
