No matter the hair type, your child has probably been traumatized by tangles. You in turn have probably also been traumatized by trying to get those tangles out. Its never a fun process and it can turn into a battle of the hair within seconds.

How’d you like a step by step guide to getting tangles out of kids’ hair?

I’m no stranger to struggling with my daughter over the state of her hair. I completely understand that getting tangles out of kids’ hair isn’t for the faint at heart. It took a lot of trial and error but I have a system that not only works on most any hair type but it doesn’t consume a lot of time and it is really cheap!

When it comes to getting tangles out of kids’ hair, there are four main tools of the trade that you need:

  1. Miracle Kids Detangler
  2. The tangle-getter-outer brush to end all brushes
  3. A sense of humor
  4. Patience

In all serious, you can end all of your child’s tangle woes with those two simple tools. Both are the best around – trust me! I have tried just about every detangler and brush/comb under the sun at some point.

The first step in getting tangles out of kids’ hair (as well as preventing them in the first place) is the Miracle Kids Detangler from Morrocco Method. I wrote all about our experience with this detangler here so feel free to read up on that at your leisure. Or just hang-ten and I’ll give you a little recap at the end of this post.

You are going to want to have the Miracle Kids Dentangler on hand for a couple of steps in the process. But don’t worry – you most likely won’t need a ton of it. More doesn’t mean better results which I love. Saves me a little money.

So let’s get to it shall we!

A step by step guide to getting tangles out of kids’ hair.

1.  Spray the Miracle Kids Detangler on your child’s try hair. Trust me – this is an important step to getting tangles out of kids’ hair. Gently brush your child’s hair with that amazing brush I mentioned. You are looking to loosen knots and tangles here. You aren’t looking to completely abolish them yet. Just loosen them.

2. Get your child in the shower or bath and saturate the hair and scalp with water. Apply conditioner from the roots to tips and allow it to sit for a minute or two. Longer is better if your child is agreeable.

3. With that amazing brush, carefully and gently begin to “work” the tangles and knots free. If everything went according to plan, most of the tangles and knots should be away from the scalp as you already loosened them before the shower. Don’t worry about perfection here. You are just trying to move those tangles downward. Getting them completely out likely won’t happen at this point unless there were very few to begin with.

4. Rinse the conditioner out of your child’s hair. If you feel it is needed, apply a gentle shampoo like the ones from Morocco Method. Make sure to use your fingertips in a gentle motion when you are lathering to work the shampoo from the scalp down the hair shaft. This is key at not only getting tangles out of kids hair but also preventing tangles. Scrubbing the ends of the hair causes not only tangles, but dryness that can lead to even more knots in the future.

5. IMPORTANT! Towel dry hair by squeezing hair dry and not rubbing hair dry. Rubbing causes a world of hurt to the hair shaft and is an easy way to tangle up tangle prone hair. You obviously want the tangles out – not to create more of a mess.

6. Section the hair into organized pieces to make the process easier. Start with a vertical part down the center and then make a horizontal part in the middle. Put a clip in to hold each piece and work through section by section.

7. Apply a healthy dose of Miracle Kids Detangler to the section of damp hair you are working on.

8. Take a deep breath and begin combing an inch or two from the bottom and be sure to hold the hair as you brush so that it doesn’t tug at the roots where it’s painful. Keep doing this until your child is tangle free remembering to apply the Miracle Kids Detangler to each new section you are working on.

And there you have it! A step by step guide to getting tangles out of kids’ hair. But wait – what about prevention!

Here are some tips for preventing tangles and knots in the first place. As simple as my detangling process has become, I’d rather not have to do it in the first place.

  • Keep your child’s hair in a loose braid for sleeping. All that tossing and turning kids do creates tangled hair.
  • If your child’s hair is very prone to knots or super curly, consider pulling their hair back into buns and braids. Even a loose ponytail is a good idea. This will allow them to be a kid all day and not knot up their hair as easily.
  • Before swimming, apply the Miracle Kids Detangler to help prevent knots and keep hair healthy.
  • When you see a tangle forming, tackle it then! Don’t wait for it to get bad.

What’s in this Miracle Kids Detangler?

  • Aqua (Water)
  • Ethyl Alcohol
  • Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice
  • Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed) Oil
  • Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Essential Oil
  • Citrus Bergamia (Bergamot) Essential Oil
  • Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Essential Oil
  • Eucalyptus Globulus (Eucalyptus) Essential Oil
  • Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Essential Oil

The essential oils are key here. They allow brushing or combing of wet hair to become a pain free, enjoyable experience.

This product does more than just create manageable hair. Thanks to the versatility of its ingredients, the Miracle Detangler moisturizes the hair and scalp when used as a leave-in conditioner. It also helps reduce irritation caused by prickly heat, is great for a natural deodorant, and freshens fabrics and linens.
