I love experimenting with kombucha flavorings. Some turn out awesome (like my Root Beer Kombucha and my Sangria Kombucha) and others don’t really come out all that great (like Dr. Pepper Kombucha.)
I am a huge fan of all things Pumpkin and thought it might be yummy to create a pumpkin pie kombucha. Uggg… so not yummy. Pumpkin and kombucha were not meant to live happily ever after. At All. Apple pie on the other hand…
On the outside, there doesn’t appear to be a huge difference between pumpkin pie spices and apple pie spice but believe me there is a HUGE difference when it comes to taste. That’s why apple pie spice played so well with Kombucha when the two first met.
The Low Down On Apple Pie Kombucha
Apple pie kombucha is so fun to make because it is adaptable. You can make it a variety of ways based on your schedule and preference. It ends up tasting the same (for the most part) no matter which method of mine you use. The most important thing is that the end result is really delicious tasting apple pie kombucha.
It has a hint of old fashioned apple cider to it combined with the crispness of a ripe apple picked straight from the tree. The spices don’t bog the kombucha down and it remains very refreshing…something pumpkin pie spice did not allow for.
This has definitely become my family’s most requested kombucha flavoring after my root beer kombucha.
In order to really pull off this recipe, you need to make the Apple Pie Spice. It is incredibly easy but if you want to cheat, just go purchase some already made. This is the apple pie spice that I suggest. It is as close to my recipe as I have found.
Ok – enough with the jibber jabber. I know you all want to make this amazing Apple Pie Kombucha! Have at it!
Enjoy!
Apple Pie Spice & Apple Pie Kombucha (Three Methods!)
Love apple pie? Love kombucha? Why not put the two together and create some delicious apple pie kombucha! Its tastes great and does a body good. You will need this delicious apple pie spice recipe to get your started!Regarding the third (cheater) Apple Pie Kombucha method: it produces a tasty Kombucha but it isn’t “authentic” apple pie. But is still is awesome!
Ingredients
For The Apple Pie Spice
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (this is a great brand)
- 1 tablespoon + 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (I happen to like the flavor of this one the best)
- 3/4 teaspoon ground allspice (not all allspice is created equal! Get this one.)
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cardamom (this is worth splurging on)
Then you need to decide which Apple Pie Kombucha recipe to make.
- I alternate between three depending on my mood. They are all wonderful – each a little different. Try them all!
For Apple Pie Kombucha Method One: The Most Decadent
- 1 quart of Kombucha
- 1/4 cup apple cider/juice (fresh pressed is best)
- 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
For Apple Pie Kombucha Method Two: Simple and Divine
- 1 quart of Kombucha
- 1/2 of a large apple, sliced thinly, grated, or chopped into small pieces (you need it to fit into your second fermentation vessel)
- 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
For Apple Pie Kombucha Method Three: The Cheater Method
- 1 quart of Kombucha
- 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
Instructions
For The Apple Pie Spice
- Mix all the spices together and store in an airtight jar.
For Apple Pie Kombucha Method One: The Most Decadent
- Pour the Kombucha, juice/cider, and spices into a second fermenting vessel (I like to use these flip top bottles)
- Put in a dark spot and allow to ferment another day or two. This simply increases the carbonation. You can also put it in the fridge and let it sit for a few days as well. I find it taste great either way.
For Apple Pie Kombucha Method Two: Simple and Divine
- Pour the Kombucha, apple slices, and spices into a second fermenting vessel (I like to use these flip top bottles )
- Put in a dark spot and allow to ferment another day or two. This simply increases the carbonation. You can also put it in the fridge and let it sit for a few days as well. I find it taste great either way.
- You can strain the fruit out and rebottle or just leave it as is.
For Apple Pie Kombucha Method Three: The Cheater Method
- Pour the Kombucha into a second fermenting vessel and add the spices (I like to use these flip top bottles )
- Put in a dark spot and allow to ferment another day or two. This simply increases the carbonation. You can also put it in the fridge and let it sit for a few days as well. I find it taste great either way.
Notes
Be forewarned – there is the possibility of a higher alcohol content due to the way apples react to the fermentation process.
You can adapt these recipes to fit whatever size bottles you do your second ferments in.

Hi there,
I tried making apple pie kombucha with another recipe i found online but it turned out super gooey.
I used chai spices (per what you suggested above).
I’m wondering if you have a similar experience or have any tips to offer me.
Thank you

Hi Ann! I can’t really speak to what might have happened without seeing the recipe. However, super gooey would suggest too much sugar or maybe too much fruit.
