Coconut oil is clearly one of the main features on Hybrid Rasta Mama. I have spent a considerable amount of time researching its many uses and have a list of future post topics a mile long. Its benefits appear to be endless and it is becoming more and more common as the “go-to” remedy for all that ails you.
I get a lot of emails from my lovely readers, the bulk of which ask me coconut oil related questions. There are certain questions that are more common than others, one of those being “how do you travel with coconut oil, especially when it melts easily and/or is in a fragile glass jar.”
For years, my response was “I purchase this specific oil which comes in a plastic jar. I then double bag it in a ziplock bag, securing it tightly with duct tape before putting it in the suitcase.”
I never had a leak with that method but it wasn’t always convenient. Sometimes I would just purchase a jar after I arrived at my destination. I always wished that there was something akin to a tube of coconut oil that made it possible to not only travel with it but also to throw in my purse since I am forever needing some. (Side note – I do keep a jar in the car but that doesn’t cut it if the car isn’t close by.)
After years of not having the perfect solution when it came to travel with coconut oil, I was approached by a new company who, wait for it, created portable coconut oil!!! The cartwheels! The shrieks of joy! The smiles! Portable, travel-friendly coconut oil! Thank goodness!
How To Travel With Coconut Oil
Coco Luxe Organic stormed onto the coconut oil scene recently with what I believe is a VERY niche product that will take the coconut oil loving community by storm.
This 6 inch tall, 2 ¼ round tube weighs in at a mere 3.4 fluid ounces. That’s nothing! And yet, it is chalk full of USDA Certified Organic coconut oil from Fiji.
Let me tell you something interesting about Fiji and why you should be pleased that this is where these coconut oil is sourced from. Fiji is a pretty remote tropical island out in the middle of the Pacific. They are one of the few remaining places on earth that remain rather pure in terms of chemical free air and water, no-pollution, and no major environmental concerns. I won’t go so far as to say that they are pristine, but close to it. We should all strive to be like them.
Anyway, I tell you this because the coconut oil is coming from a place so pure and clean that it just might be some of the best coconut oil on the planet. And to honor this island’s legacy, Coco Luxe organics ensures that both the coconuts and the process, from growing to production is certified organic, even using renewable fuels that benefit the environment. So rest assured, Fiji is not being harmed in the coconut oil making process.
So – you ready to hear how this coconut oil fared when I put it through its paces? Let's travel with coconut oil…
Test #1 – The packing on the bottom of the suitcase test.
Ok – I’ll admit, I was nervous about this one because I didn’t want to blow open the tube and spend the afternoon doing more laundry. Because I do plenty daily and it just never ends. So I cheated and sealed it in a plastic bag.
I then placed the tube at the bottom of my suitcase and packed the normal amount of clothing on top of it along with other odds and ends that might typically go in my suitcase. I closed it up, weighed it (50 pounds), and wheeled it all over the place. Luckily we have a decent size property so it got a workout. I threw it in the car, threw it out of the car, sat on it, had my daughter sit on it, and then unpacked.
Voila! The tube was in perfect condition. It survived the suitcase test nicely. Now, to be safe, I would probably still put it in a bag and I would also probably still NOT put it on the bottom of the suitcase (maybe a side pocket) but if it found its way into the depths of the suitcase, I believe it will survive.
Test #2 – The sit test
Yep – this is exactly like it sounds. I sat right on the tube. Now granted, I’m not a big person but I weigh enough to crush a tube of coconut oil in my opinion. I felt the contents squish when I sat on them but the flip top didn’t open up nor were there any tears in the tube. So it can withstand a decent amount of pressure on top of it for a very short period of time.
Test #3 – Squeezability in cool temperatures
We all know that coconut oil solidifies when the temperatures begin to drop. For my house, that means the coconut oil needs to get around 74 degrees or less. At the time of this test, it was still 96 degrees or higher (in October thank-you-very-much) so I had to give it a little ice bath. It didn’t take long before it was solidified and then I got to work.
Surprisingly, it didn’t take much effort to get things moving along. A few gentle caresses, a little rubbing to warm it up, and out it flowed. No problem. Took 30 seconds of my time.
Speaking of 30 seconds and caressing…
Test #4 – Ahem…intimate uses
I’ve written about coconut oil for intimate uses before. It is in fact my most viewed post these days. I guess you all were waiting with baited breath for someone to tackle that topic. Anyway, a frequent complaint about using coconut oil for intimate uses was the “ick factor” of reaching into a jar and slathering it wherever the moment needed it. And then the “double ick factor” of reaching back into the jar for more.
I don’t blame you all. While I have a dedicated jar for that purpose, it still is a little ick.
So let’s think about this for a second. Most lubricants come in a tube right? Right. So it would stand to reason that not only does Coco Luxe Organic coconut oil make the perfect travel companion, it also makes the perfect addition to intimate moments. No fuss, no muss, just grab, apply, and get down to business.
So what did Hybrid Rasta Mama think?
I love this stuff! Not only is it totally portable, mess-proof, meets my “green requirements” but it is really a stellar coconut oil. I love the smell. It is pleasant – not overpowering. The texture is kind of cool. Something happens on the way out the tube that makes it just a little less greasy than the norm. So that’s a plus. It goes on smooth and does what coconut oil is supposed to do!
I love having a tube in my purse. It has come in handy more times than I can count. Everyone who sees it marvels at it! I think you will agree that coconut oil in a tube is pretty much the next best thing to, well, coconut oil in a jar!
So, what do you think? Are you as excited as I am about this? I hope so. I promise you will love it! Now do some travel with coconut oil!
